From the disciplined halls of Clark High School in Las Vegas, graduating in 1988, to the rigorous
terrains of the Army (Airborne Infantry) and the heart of conflict in the first Gulf War in 1991, my
early years were marked by service and perseverance. Transitioning from military to civilian life,
I joined the workforce as a teamster at UPS, embodying the value of hard work from the very
beginning. This phase was crucial, teaching me the importance of every rank and file in shaping
a successful organization.
Venturing into a new challenge, I joined the Luxor's valet service in 1993, quickly establishing
myself as a Shop Steward for Local 995 by 1995. My journey took a pivotal turn in 2000,
becoming a Business Agent/Organizer, where I honed my skills in leadership and strategic
campaign management, embarking on a mission to empower workers across the nation.
Joining the International in 2005 marked a period of extensive growth and impact, leading
campaigns of recognition, contract negotiations, and battling decertification efforts, sharpening
my vision for collective success and resilience.
In 2019, I shifted my focus to organizing for Local 14, spearheading efforts for CCSD, and
succeeded in rallying over 2000 members. My vision for Local is a testament to my enduring
belief in active organizing, internal and external, alongside building a formidable political
stronghold through concerted political action.
My journey, though different in the sectors I've impacted, reflects a deep-seated dedication to
serving people, empowering them to recognize their worth and potential, and advocating for the
collective strength of organized action. Remember, "In the world of Labor, leaders are born from
adversity. Only when you face your challenges head-on will your true leadership emerge." This
belief has guided me through every chapter of my career, always with a vision to uplift and
transform.
Grant has been with the Teamsters since 2011. A paralegal by trade, Grant decided to join the international union in 2011 as an Organizer. Grant took part in the Los Angeles Port Strikes, an American Airlines fight in Oklahoma, and a number of other organizing drives across the country. In 2014, he joined Teamsters Local 14 as a Contract Representative. Grant works on the majority of contract negotiations for Teamsters Local 14; he negotiated 16 different bargaining contracts last year alone. He has 6 children and was born here in Nevada.
My career started in the airline industry, spanning 25 years with United Airlines, serving a majority of that time as a shop steward with IAM Local 1979. That is wear my passion began as an advocate for worker rights.
I spent 6 years at Chevron Refining serving in the capacity as a shop steward with IBEW 1260, fighting for improved working conditions and safety for those working 24-7 rotating shift work.
Moving to Las Vegas in 2010, I've now spent the last 14 years representing Teamsters Local 14, committed to the service of those in Public Sector to ensure their work is recognized as premiere.
My journey at the Teamsters Local 14 office started as a labor Trustee then transitioned into Recording Secretary and now, I serve in the capacity as the Vice President for Teamsters Local 14.
I also help ensure the health and welfare of our membership is maintained at high levels as a Labor Trustee on the Teamsters of Southern Nevada Local 14 Health Trust Fund.
I embrace change and look forward to the future of Local 14 as we re-new the purpose of Local 14 thru expanding our membership and strength via organizing and becoming politically active thru out the LAs Vegas valley.
Born in 1972 in Santa Barbara, CA.
I moved to Las Vegas in late 1977 to this present day.
My career started in early 1991, working for the City of Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. I immediately started my job right out of high school as a cadet, soon after changing my career path.
I was then recruited with the City of North Las Vegas. I began my new career in the Parks and Recreation Department in 1993, where I spent 22 years as a Parks Maintenance Worker. While there, I was able to move my way up the ranks to Assistant Manager for the Parks Division. Simultaneously, while holding the position as an Assistant Manager for the Parks, I was able to hold the position of Shop Steward for Teamsters Local 14.
I finished my last 8 year as Chief Shop Steward for the City of North Las Vegas where I managed all labor disputes and represented over 700 Members for Local 14.
Immediately after finishing my 30 year career with the City of North Las Vegas, I began my second career as a Senior Business Agent for Teamsters Local 14. As a Senior Business Agent, I continue to assist and represent North Las Vegas, Clark County School District, and Boulder City.
My goal is to remain working to ensure our rank and file members receive the proper contracts that they are so deserving of.
My name is Kimberly Spurlock and I am originally from Omaha, NE. I have lived in Clark County
for nearly 30 years and have called North Las Vegas home for most of this time. I have a BA
degree in Broadcast Communications and a Master’s degree in Organizational Management with
minors in English and Sociology. I also obtain an Employee and Labor Relations certification in
February, 2022.
I have been an employee of the City of North Las Vegas for almost 21 years with 20 of those years
working for the North Las Vegas Police Department. I became a Teamsters Shop Steward in 2011.
I felt the need and desire to do more for employees and wanted a voice in this process. I was
promoted to Chief Shop Steward for the City of North Las Vegas in June, 2023.
I recognize the importance of having representation in the workplace -- Teamsters gives employees
a bigger, collective voice within that workplace. Through collective bargaining agreements,
Teamsters Local 14 has been very effective in negotiating an abundance of benefits for members
who work in Teamsters-represented positions. We have been very instrumental in ensuring that
employees receive fair and equitable wages and great health and wellness benefits at minimal cost.
Our objective has always been to present the most effective and beneficial proposals that clearly
define the parameters around our members’ employment. Teamsters Local 14 has worked very
hard to ensure that members are afforded a fair hiring and training process and that they know
what to do and where to go if they have issues of concern. Teamsters Local 14 will also fight like
hell to represent their members should they face discipline with their employer, and they will do
their best to minimize, as much as possible, any unreasonable or harsh outcomes.
I am a Teamsters member because Teamsters has always worked their best to ensure that
employees like myself have what we need to be successful in our job so that we can enjoy a better,
more secure lifestyle for our families.
Las Vegas has been my home since 1981, witnessing its extraordinary transformation firsthand. From iconic casinos like the Hacienda, El Rancho, Desert Inn, Landmark, and Sands vanishing into history,
I've seen this city evolve into the global entertainment capital it is today.
For the past 16 years, I’ve been employed at Southern Glazers, serving as the day warehouse Shop Steward currently for four years.
I embraced this role with a passion for driving positive change and improving the lives of our members.
As a Trustee for Teamsters Local 14, my commitment to our union remains steadfast. We tirelessly advocate for better wages, comprehensive healthcare, and the continued growth of our organization, ensuring our members receive the representation they deserve.
I have been employed at CCSD for over 20 years.
I was active for years in the fight at CCSD to bring Teamsters Local 14 in and have continued to remain extremely active ever since the Teamsters started representing workers at CCSD.
I’m extremely proud of what we have been able to accomplish through hard work, commitment to the cause and solidarity.
I am committed to equality and improving working conditions for all employees.
I look forward to many more victories for all of us at CCSD.
